CRRSAA (HEERF II) Student Portion Disclosure—Final Report

The following is Virginia Tech’s Required Quarterly Reporting for Funds Received under Section 18004(a)(1) of CRRSAA for the Quarter Ending June 30, 2021.

Virginia Tech, in accordance with the requirements outlined by the U.S. Department of Education, acknowledged and signed the agreement under the CRRSAA to provide Emergency Grants to 鶹APP.

Virginia Tech received $9,699,494 in CRRSAA funds for 鶹APP and estimates it had 20,127 undergraduate, graduate, and professional 鶹APP eligible to apply for grants.

Virginia Tech awarded emergency grants under the CRRSAA (also known as HEERF II) automatically to 鶹APP who were determined to have exceptional financial need using the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the 2020-2021 FAFSA.

Virginia Tech automatically awarded grants to 鶹APP who:

  • Were an undergraduate, graduate, or professional student enrolled for the spring 2021 semester for at least 1 credit hour;
  • Had a FAFSA on file for the 2020-2021 academic year with completed citizenship verification; and,
  • Had an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the FAFSA that was less than $17,000.

Students who received scholarships, grants, or other types of “free money” equal to or exceeding the Cost of Attendance were excluded from receiving automatically awarded grants because they had no exceptional financial need, as defined by the FAFSA.

Students were awarded the following amounts:

  • Students who had an EFC equal to or less than $5,711 received a grant of $1,200; and,
  • Students who had an EFC between $5,712 and $16,999 received a grant of $800.

Note: there were a handful of 鶹APP who received an institutional grant from VT to make up the full amount of their HEERF II award.

All 鶹APP were allowed to apply for a HEERF II emergency grant, whether or not they had automatically received a grant.  The application was announced via VT Daily News and the initial announcement may be found here:

The announcement was in the Virginia Tech Daily News on March 11, 19, and 22.

Students who applied were required to complete an application (screen shot at the end).  VT awarded emergency grants to 鶹APP based on the application.  No student received more than $1,200 from the grants that were automatically awarded, the emergency grant application process, or from the combination of both.  The emergency grant application was closed the morning of March 24, 2021.

Virginia Tech awarded 8,765 鶹APP grants automatically in the amount of $9,089,713.  Additionally, VT awarded 650 鶹APP an emergency grant via the application process in the amount of $609,781.
